Is wishthis dead?

Hey everybody!

I hope you are doing well! Here’s a short update on what’s been going on (or rather not going on) in the past years.

First off, I’d like to thank everybody who has been reaching out, creating issues and reporting bugs, as well as feature requests! The development has stagnated over the years and things are looking rather quiet on the GitHub repository.

Building and maintaining a web app like wishthis is a lot of work and I naively underestimated the amount of time and dedication it takes. The entire development and maintenance of the wishthis code base and support given on issues and requests in matrix and discord is something I do completely by myself in my free time.

Life has been… challenging for me with a lot going on in the past years and finding the time (and motivation) to do this outside of my full-time job, while managing my day-to-day-happenings is something I have struggled with and still do.

So what happens next?

It’s been a long time goal of mine to rewrite (most of) wishthis’ code – it’s a mess! Working with it is a pain. If anybody with web development knowledge would look at it, I’m sure it’d make them cry.

Things are slowly starting to calm down here and I slowly started my refactoring. My goal is to get the code base cleaned up and make working with it more of a joy. My hope is that my motivation to work with it increases and I can continue to build it.

Long live wishthis

wishthis has always had a special place in my heart. I hope it never dies! I just wanted to let you know that it isn’t dead – at least not for me. I can’t promise you if or when the next update is coming but I can tell you that I have not abandoned it. Not yet!
